Blog Tour ~ Surviving Raine by Shay Savage

 photo surviving-raine-cbl-book-tours-stacked-books_zps08e61025.png

Book Summary:

As the captain of a schooner catering to the elite on the Caribbean Seas, Sebastian Stark does his best to avoid any human encounters. Interacting with people isn’t his thing, and he prefers the company of a bottle of vodka, a shot glass, and maybe a whore. There’s no doubt he’s hiding from a checkered past, but he does well keeping everything to himself…

…until the night his schooner capsizes, and he’s stuck on a life raft with one of the passengers.

Raine’s young, she’s cute, and Bastian would probably be into her if he wasn’t suffering from alcohol withdrawal. As the days pass, DTs, starvation, and dehydration become the norm. Even
the most closed person starts to open up when he thinks he’s going to die, but when she realizes their traumatic pasts are connected, it’s no longer the elements that have Bastian concerned.

He has no idea how he’s going to Survive Raine.

***

Bastian isn’t the most pleasant guy Raine could have ended up with in the middle of the ocean with no chance of rescue, but he has an uncanny knack for survival. As she digs through the walls surrounding the stubborn and challenging man, she finds something surprisingly different buried inside…

…and he can answer the question she’s asked for years.

As she learns more about what has brought him to this fate, Raine is determined to drag this self-destructive man back from the edge of the wave. Isolation is her only chance to tear the man out from inside of the animal, but this one has been abused for a long time.

She also has to live long enough to get through to him.

Excerpt:
“What’s your problem?” I snapped again. I hadn’t really meant to, I was just tense and pissy.
The smoke was helping, but what I really wanted was a drink. I didn’t suppose anyone packed any of those little tiny airplane-sized booze bottles in the survival kits.
“I…um…” she stumbled over her words and looked away. Even under her darkened skin, I could see red creeping into her cheeks.
“What?” I was annoyed now. If she was going to complain about my smoking, I was going to lose it.
“I…have to go to the bathroom.”
I laughed. I took one last long drag, getting it all the way up to the filter before I tossed the butt out onto the waves.
“Then fucking go!”
“Where?”
“Didn’t you notice the en suite bath?” I laughed again, and then took a smidgen of pity on her. “Over the side, where do you think?”
“Well…how?”
All right, she did have a point there. Or rather, she didn’t have a point. Or a pointer. I had to laugh again at my internal joke.
“Just…I don’t know…hang your ass out over the edge. Or get in the water.
Whatever.”
“I’d have to take off my suit.”
“So?”
She blushed again.
“What? You want me to hang out in the next room for a few minutes? I promise I won’t gawk at you.”
She didn’t move. Well, actually, she was still fidgeting around; she just didn’t make a move to actually solve her dilemma. If she kept this up, she was going to pee in the fucking raft.
“If it makes you feel any better, I’ve already checked you out front and back, had my mouth on yours and my hand on your tit, so it’s not like…”
She gasped and covered her mouth with her hands. I realized how what I had said sounded, considering she had been unconscious the entire time. I shook my head.
“I didn’t mean…ah, fuck.” I grabbed my shirt and flopped down on my back, covering my whole face up with the garment. I lay there for a moment but didn’t hear her moving at all, so I yelled at her again. “Get on with it!”
She moved. I could hear her shuffle over to the front of the raft and then move around in one place, presumably taking off her shorts and her bathing suit.
“If you are going to get in the water, put the life preserver around your waist first and hold on to the fucking ladder. I don’t want to have to dive in after your ass again.”
“Okay,” she said. “Um…where is it?”
“Right outside the opening – on the left.”
“Thank you,” she said.
“Whatever.”
I listened to her move around a bit more and then felt her move closer to the opening and off to the side. There was a soft splash, and a minute later I heard her pulling herself back up onto the raft.
“There’s something similar to a towel over there,” I said – flinging my arm out in the
direction of the back of the raft and waving my hand around. “Make sure you dry off the floor, too.”
“Thank you,” she said.
“Whatever.”
I listened to her move around some more, getting pretty fed up with just lying there, baking, with my fucking shirt over my head.
“Are you done yet?”
“Almost,” she said quietly. Her voice still sounded scratchy. “Okay, I’m done.”
I grabbed the shirt off my face and sat up, looking over at her. She was adjusting the straps on her suit and still blushing.
“Do you know why my…um…throat hurts?”
“Yeah,” I said. I didn’t elaborate. After a minute she finally asked.
“Why does my throat hurt?”
“Because you inhaled a shitload of salt water,” I stated. “It fucks up your throat and your vocal cords. Give it a day; it’ll be better.”
“Thank you,” she said, again.
“Whatever,” I replied, again.
I shoved my hand down into the sealed up container for rations and pulled out a carb bar. I tore it in half and threw one of the pieces at her.
“Eat it,” I instructed. “You can have the other half in six hours.”
“Six hours?” she repeated.
“Are you a fucking recorder? Yes, six hours.”
I knew I was being a bastard, but my brain was working overtime trying to figure out what our best course of action might be. Having her here made it ten times more difficult. If it was just me, I was pretty sure I would be fine. There was plenty of food and water for just me. I could fish, I could take care of myself, and I could stay alive under pretty extreme circumstances.
Having her here with me just…complicated everything.

Review ~ Over the Edge by Suzanne Carroll

Over the EdgeOver the Edge by Suzanne Carroll

Summary:

In six weeks Zoe Harper will marry Dan Costi in an over-the-top Sydney society wedding, complete with fire-eaters and belly dancers. But when she receives an unexpected gift from her future mother-in-law, Zoe realises she’s making a huge mistake. In a blazing sidewalk argument, she breaks up with her fiance, and his mother–who has joined the fight via conference call.
Following the advice of friends and co-workers, along with some inspiration from late-night-television self-help guru Dr. Pam, Zoe sets out to find the life she thinks she should be living. Always a planner, she makes a list of goals: travel, career, tattoos, and no relationships. It’s all carefully laid out, until she meets Angus Creed.
In six weeks Angus is supposed to lead the opening waltz at a charity ball in New York City. Only problem is, the handsome billionaire construction magnate with the tabloid past can’t dance. Not one step.
Tainted by gossip and with a well-publicised failed engagement behind him, Angus has become a master at keeping an emotional distance. Until he meets Zoe.
What starts as dancing lessons, slowly becomes something more. Angus begins to let down his guard and open his heart, even when his past makes an unexpected and unwelcome return. As Zoe discovers the real man behind the headlines, she questions where her new choices are taking her. Her goals look good on paper, but are they what she really wants? And by the time she realises where her heart lies, will it be too late?
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book! It was a light, romantic read.

Set in Australia, Zoe realizes the man, Dan, she’s engaged to is a controlling momma’s boy and a huge brat. He was so dismissive and frustrating. His mother was worse and obviously where he learned his behaviors from. Boy, was I glad when she dumped him on the side of the road.

In comes her boss and CEO, Angus, of the company she works for and he is delectable. He’s interested just enough but aloof and quiet and sexy and powerful. But, Zoe just got out of a controlling relationship and doesn’t want another man. I think Angus is my new book boyfriend. He fell hard and fast and his actions showed it. Zoe took a bit longer to get there, but when she did, the story was over. Much too short if you ask me.

Carroll did a great job with the characters, all of them. I loved every single interaction. And she does funny well. I laughed out loud so much and giggled quite a bit too. There’s a scene where Zoe had an experience with her fear of heights and I almost had an anxiety attack. Carroll wrote the scene so clear and so well that I felt it as I’m also afraid of heights. Great scene!

The ending was perfect and I was so happy at the revenge.

Yeah, you’ll just have to read. ;) I recommend this for anyone that wants a great romance, slow burn, and a good time.

Meet My Guest ~ Author ~ Rie Warren

Meet my beautiful guest, Rie Warren.
 photo RieWarrenHeadshotForANGSTY_zpsb27d804b.jpg

Bio:

A Yankee transplant via the UK and other wild journeys, Rie happily landed in Charleston, South Carolina, with her English artisan husband and their two small daughters—one an aspiring diva, the other a future punk rocker. They’ve put down roots in the beautiful area, raising children who meld the southern “y’all” with a British accent, claiming it’s a comical combination.

After earning her degree in fine arts, Rie promptly gave up paintbrushes and canvas for paper and pen (because she decided being a writer was equally as good an idea as being an artist; of course it was). That was fifteen years ago that her writing career started. With a manuscript of super epic proportions! Safely stored under a lace doily in a filing cabinet. Possibly in England…

Since then she’s done this and that, here and there, usually in the nonprofit arena, until she returned to her dream of being a writer. Even though Rie basks in the glorious southern sunshine as often as she can, she’s mostly a nocturnal creature, adjourning to her writer’s atelier (spare bedroom) in search of her next devious plot twist or delicious passionate tryst.

No matter what genre or gender pairing she’s writing, she combines a sexy southern edge with humor and heart—and a taste of darkness.

Interview Questions

Do you wear boxers or briefs?

Neither! I traded in my too-young-to-be-wearing-these-granny-panties about 5 years ago for thongs and haven’t looked back since. Ha ha, looked back and thongs, that could totally be misinterpreted somehow.

Name one actor/actress you would love to get naughty with?

This is easy. I’ve got 2 words for you…Jax Teller! Sexy Jax from SoA aka Charlie Hunam.

What is your favorite daily wear attire?

Usually I favor knee-high, black vinyl boots with 5 inch stiletto heels over my skintight black leather pants and a corset. Kidding! Having children and doing mommy things doesn’t allow one to be so kinky on a daily basis. And I shudder to think of the reactions from the PTA at large ;) .

 What’s your bad quality?

I may have been told, on one or two occasions, I can be a teensy little bit brusque.

What was the best thing before sliced bread?

Um, is this a trick question? No? Well, it’s gotta be either fire or the wheel, right? Or maybe hot showers and beds with enormous fluffy mattresses?

What kind of music do you like?

All kinds! I’m a music whore! I go through phases depending on what type of story or scene I’m writing: heavy metal, alternative, pop (Bruno Mars, call me!), classical. I gotta say the one style of music I don’t go for is…country. Don’t hate me!

What makes you angry? Are you short-tempered? How do you overcome your anger?

Bad drivers and/or people who don’t use their blinkers. How hard is it to flick that wand to turn on your blinker? Sometimes I give into the surge of road rage and flip them the bird. Other times I get really crazy and honk my horn.

Which is the best vacation you’ve ever had?

Traveling around Europe on the Eurorail with my mom when I was 21. Paris, Munich, Vienna, Budapest…it was awesome!

Which is your most cherished childhood memory?

Spending long summer weekends at the lake cottage my grandparents built in Maine. Those days were perfect: swimming, boating, fishing, picking blueberries. I loved that place!

What kind of kid were you, naughty or nice?

Pfft. Look at me. Obviously I was a perfect little angel, can’t you tell? What? My halo is started to tarnish?

Thank you so much for having me, it was a blast!

Now on to her upcoming release!

 photo sugardaddytagdone--LARGEEMAIL_zps2d89cf2e.jpg

Her upcoming book, Sugar Daddy sounds hot and sensuous.

Summary:

Shay Greer is pure GRITS—a Girl Raised In The South–but nowhere near a demure southern belle. She’s looking for a way out of her broken down marriage when she lands an unexpected job offer she really should refuse. Position? Mistress. Fringe Benefits? Of course. Fraternization with sexy CEO Reardon Boone? Required. Lured by the promise of intimacy missing from her failed marriage, Shay signs on. She’s barely survived a hellish year of heartbreak and needs a fresh start, but she gets more than she bargained for with lowcountry-boy-made-good Reardon Boone.

Bankrolling Shay into his bedroom, Reardon sticks by his tried and true rules: no-strings-attached seduction, no messy emotions, absolutely nothing resembling a relationship. This sassy, sultry woman fits the bill precisely…until she arouses more than his erotic appetite.

So desirable he sets hearts on fire in everyone from downtown debutantes to downhome mommas, Reardon is as irresistible as he is unattainable. Shay falls hard despite their unorthodox arrangement. Determined to discover what’s concealed beneath his Forbes 400 facade, she has no idea how close to home the truth will hit.

Review ~ Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie

Maybe This TimeMaybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie

Summary:

Andie Miller is ready to move on in life. She wants to marry her fiancé and leave behind everything in her past, especially her ex-husband, North Archer. But when Andie tries to gain closure with him, he asks one final favor of her before they go their separate ways forever. A very distant cousin of his has died and left North as the guardian of two orphans who have driven out three nannies already, and things are getting worse. He needs a very special person to take care of the situation and he knows Andie can handle anything.

When Andie meets the two children she quickly realizes things are much worse than she feared. The place is a mess, the children, Carter and Alice, aren’t your average delinquents, and the creepy old house where they live is being run by the worst housekeeper since Mrs. Danvers. What’s worse, Andie’s fiancé thinks this is all a plan by North to get Andie back, and he may be right. Andie’s dreams have been haunted by North since she arrived at the old house. And that’s not the only haunting.

What follows is a hilarious adventure in exorcism, including a self-doubting parapsychologist, an annoyed medium, her Tarot-card reading mother, an avenging ex-mother-in-law, and, of course, her jealous fiancé. And just when she thinks things couldn’t get more complicated, North shows up on the doorstep making her wonder if maybe this time things could be different between them.

If Andie can just get rid of all the guests and ghosts, she’s pretty sure she can save the kids, and herself, from the past. But fate might just have another thing in mind…

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow, what a surprise this book was. I thought it would be a regular romance, but nope … it was so much more than that. This book had ghosts, amazing kids, and a nanny. With all of that, there was a romance and not in the traditional sense. The people in love were apart for most of the story but the thoughts were there. How she was able to create such a romance with two people that are barely together is a gift. She did a great job with it and it was believable.

I fell in love with the kids in the story and their troubles. The kids are under the care of North, but he never sees them. They live in their home with a housekeeper. They’ve been dealing with some serious trouble on their own and they desperately need help. In comes Andie, North’s ex-wife, she wants to close the door on their past, but he wrangles her into being a nanny to those kids. Boy does she do a great job and the whole time she fantasizes about her ex-husband. Oh and when they finally get past their pasts, they connect hot and heavy.

Like a bit of romance with some magical realism, then this story is for you!

Review ~ Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor by Lisa Kleypas

Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor (Friday Harbor, #1)Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor by Lisa Kleypas

Summary:

New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas’s new series begins during the most magical time of year

One rain-slicked night, six-year-old Holly lost the only parent she knew, her beloved mother Victoria. And since that night, she has never again spoken a word.

ONE SINGLE MAN NEEDS A WIFE

SOMETIMES, IT TAKES A LITTLE MAGIC…
Maggie Collins doesn’t dare believe in love again, after losing her husband of one year. But she does believe in the magic of imagination. As the owner of a toy shop, she lives what she loves. And when she meets Holly Nolan, she sees a little girl in desperate need of a little magic.

…TO MAKE DREAMS COME TRUE
Three lonely people. Three lives at the crossroads. Three people who are about to discover that Christmas is the time of year when anything is possible, and when wishes have a way of finding the path home…

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a very short (4 hours listening time) and cute story. I think it could have been longer to spend more time on the romance between Mark and Maggie. I felt Mark’s desire for Maggie and felt Maggie’s fear of loving again, but I needed to feel more of them together. The connection wasn’t as strong as it could have been.

Holly, Mark’s niece and new ward was adorable. Now she was a strong character. The story, a romance, was also about Holly and her wish and dealing with losing her mother. It was such a touching subject and Mark, Sam, and Alex (in his own way) were wonderful with her.

Loved the two other Nolan brothers as well. This is a series that I will definitely continue. The next two are about the brothers finding love.

I recommend this for anyone that likes romance and wants a quick read.
